The Borderline Battle vs. the War
Published: Mon, 11/17/08
Hi ,
Hope you're doing ok today.
Many people get frustrated with borderline
personality disorder.
Especially supporters.
Who could blame them?
No two days are ever the same.
Your loved one is needy one minute and
pushes you away the next minute.
Your loved one says something cruel to you,
and you don't know what you did to
deserve it.
Your loved one acts normal at times, but
at other times you feel like you don't even
know them.
Your loved one picks fights with you.
Over nothing. Over everything.
And you can't win, even when you're right.
You have so many conflicting emotions.
You love them. You hate them.
You're lonely. You're tired of it all.
You want to stay. You want to run away.
You just don't know what to do.
You feel like you're in a war.
A war that you're losing.
You're frustrated.
Many supporters don't just get frustrated.
They give up.
They give in.
They basically feel like it's all over -
Like they've lost the war.
Well, if you're really feeling like this, I want
to encourage you.
I know, you're probably thinking I'm crazy,
right?
Where can I find anything in all this to be
encouraged about?
I'll tell you.
It's this:
You may feel as if you've lost the battle,
but you have NOT lost the war!
With borderline personality disorder, it's like
you're in a "forever" kind of war.
And sometimes you may feel as if you're fighting
battles right and left, all around you.
But the fight against borderline personality
disorder is still a war that you can WIN!
In my main course and resource below, I teach
about different strategies for dealing with your
loved one's acting out behavior:

STRATEGIES.
Now that's a wartime word.
In any war, the "good guys" have to have
strategies.
It's how they fight their battles.
It's how they win the war.
Well, as a supporter to a loved one with
borderline personality disorder, you have to
have strategies, too.
Strategies like standing beside your loved one even
when they're acting out.
Strategies like supporting your loved one through
good times AND bad.
Strategies like making sure your loved one takes
their medication and goes to therapy.
Strategies like helping your loved one to manage
their disorder.
Strategies like being the best supporter you can
possibly be.
Remember, you're in a war, too -
You have an enemy, too -
And that enemy is called borderline personality
disorder.
The enemy is NOT your loved one, although it
can feel that way sometimes.
Always remember that your loved one is NOT
their disorder.
You can hate their disorder and still love them.
Your real enemy is borderline personality
disorder.
But that enemy CAN be defeated!
Yes, you'll lose some battles along the way.
BUT...
If you DON'T GIVE UP...
If you DON'T GIVE IN...
You WILL win the war!
Your Friend,
Dave
