Borderline? You Are What You Think
Published: Tue, 11/11/08
Hi ,
How's your day going?
I was talking with Michele the other day
about what people think about you, and
she told me this story:
She said that one time she was talking to
another woman about it, and that woman
told her it was none of her business
what people thought of her.
Yeah, I thought the same thing! What
do you mean, it was none of her business?
Well, that's what Michele thought, too, so
she asked her about it.
And the woman just repeated, "What other
people think about you is none of your
business."
So Michele didn't get it at first (neither did I).
But then she thought about it, and explained
it to me, and I'm going to explain it to you.
See, you are what you think - no matter what
other people think you are (does that make
sense)?
Other people may think you're stupid, but does
that make you stupid?
Of course not.
Not unless YOU think you're stupid.
Now, your loved one, part of their borderline
personality disorder is that they name-call.
So sometimes they may call you names,
and that might hurt your feelings, but
does that make you what they call you?
Well, it's like what I was just saying.
Say they call you an idiot (it happens a
lot, according to emails I get from
supporters). Does that make you an idiot?
NO. Not unless YOU think you're one.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK.
On the other hand, if you think you're
beautiful, then...
YEP!
You're beautiful!
And if you think you're smart...
Then you're smart!
In my main course and resource below, I
teach how your emotions are controlled by
your thoughts. If you have negative
thoughts, then you're going to have a
negative attitude:
SUPPORTING A LOVED ONE WITH BORDERLINE?

NEED HELP EXPLAINING BORDERLINE PERSONALITY?

So this can be bad or good.
In your case, if you think you're a
victim, then you're a victim.
See what I mean?
If you think you're in a hopeless situation,
you're going to start thinking negatively,
and your emotions are going to reflect
those thoughts.
You're going to start feeling hopeless.
If you start thinking about being helpless...
Well...
Guess what?
You're going to BE helpless.
Because, in YOUR mind, you're helpless.
And your emotions follow your thoughts.
BUT...
If you think you're a winner...
You ARE a winner!
Remember what I said...
YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK.
Your Friend,
Dave
