Borderline? How's Your Score?
Published: Mon, 12/07/09
Hi ,
How are you today?
I hope you're doing well.
There are a lot of people who
love to play Bingo. You may
even be one of them!
Now, you know how Bingo
works, right?
They call a column and a
number, and you mark it on
your card.
If you get a column, row, or
diagonal filled, you can call
a Bingo.
Then you win!
And the reward for getting a
Bingo is usually a prize.
Well, think of this as it relates
to borderline personality disorder.
You have certain "columns" in
your life, and certain "numbers."
The goal is stability (that would
be your Bingo).
And the prize is no longer having
acting out episodes and their
consequences.
In my course and main resource
below, I talk about how to manage
your borderline personality disorder
and about setting goals. That's
what I'm talking about here.

Things you have to do to gain
stability.
Let's say the B column represents
necessary pre-requisites to stability.
The numbers might be:
- Accept your disorder
- Realize the need for change
- Be willing to change
- Be cooperative
- Want to be stable
Ok, now let's say the I column
represents characteristics needed
for stability:
- willingness
- cooperation
- positive attitude
- optimism
- humility
The N column could represent
specific things you need to
change:
- My anger
- My attitude
- Need to believe stability
is possible for me
- My insecurity
- My fear that my loved one
will leave me.
Now, the G column might represent
what you have to do to gain your
stability:
- Learn about borderline
personality disorder
- Take medications
- See a doctor, psychiatrist,
and/or therapist
- Form a good, strong support
system
- Attend all therapy sessions
Then, the O Column could be
specific things you can do to gain
stability:
- Be consistent with taking my
my medications
- Practice what I learn in my
therapy sessions
- Set and attain long- and
short-term goals
- Work on relationship with
my supporter
- Do things that make me feel
good
HOW you do these things matters
as well.
For example, if you have a positive
attitude while going through this
process, you will feel better about
it.
If you are committed to getting
better, you will be willing to attend
all your therapy sessions for the
long term.
If you have a "Can Do" attitude,
then you will believe that stability
is possible for you.
If you are willing to accept that
what needs to change in your
relationship with your supporter
is YOU, then it will be easier to
change those things you need to.
If you are humble, it will be
easier as well.
If you learn to control your anger,
you will have less episodes of
rage.
If you accept help for your borderline
personality disorder, you won't
have to do it all alone.
Now, all this adds up to one big
scorecard.
When you've got your card filled,
you can yell, "Bingo!" as loud as
you want, because you will have
reached stability with your
borderline personality disorder!
What about you?
How does your scorecard
measure up?
Your Friend,
Dave
